Guildford Crematorium has been awarded an "outstanding" rating by inspectors, achieving a remarkable 99.32% score across 145 aspects of service delivery. This success under the Liberal Democrat-run administration demonstrates the party's ongoing commitment to "putting residents first" and delivering high-quality local services.

The inspection, conducted by the Federation of Burial and Crematorium Authorities (FBCA), saw the facility achieve a perfect score in six out of seven areas. Inspectors particularly assessed the crematorium’s modern facilities, including its digital services and webcasting capabilities. This recognition follows the Lib Dem administration's recent budget, which prioritised investment in "community assets" and "service modernisation" while protecting the vital frontline services residents rely on.

Commenting on the achievement, Councillor Angela Goodwin (Lead Councillor for Environment & Sustainability) said:

"This outstanding rating is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and professionalism of the staff at Guildford Crematorium. As Liberal Democrats, we promised a ‘Greener, Fairer, Thriving Guildford’, and providing compassionate, high-quality care for our bereaved families is a vital part of that commitment.

"At a time when we are making responsible financial decisions to safeguard the future of our borough, it is heartening to see our community facilities performing at the very highest level for our residents. This is a tangible example of our commitment to practical policies that put people first."

The inspection report highlighted the "care, dignity and professionalism" the team brings to their roles every day. Inspectors specifically noted the thoughtful support offered to families, particularly the sensitivity afforded to those experiencing the loss of a child. Recognition of this "compassionate service" is considered particularly reassuring by the council leadership.

This "outstanding" result for the crematorium follows other recent successes for the council, including receiving the highest social housing rating in Surrey, further cementing the Lib Dem-run council's reputation for excellence in service delivery. The next scheduled inspection for the crematorium will take place in three years.
