Following a recent inspection of Guildford Borough Council’s housing service it has been awarded the highest Consumer Standards grading that can be issued by the Regulator of Social Housing. This rating moves the council straight from C3 to C1 marking the first ever move between these grades and follows significant improvements to the council’s housing service.

Council Leader, Julia McShane said: “I am delighted that our Liberal Democrat council leadership’s commitment to high-quality social housing and putting residents first has been recognised so clearly.

As Lead Councillor for Housing I’m incredibly proud of the hard work, dedication and professionalism of the staff across the council who have made this possible.  We are the first and only council in Surrey to have a C1 grading.”

The C1 grading confirms that Guildford’s services are safe, well managed and compliant. It also shows that the council is hitting the standards set by the regulator and that it openly identifies, addresses, and resolves problems effectively.

Cllr McShane added: “Whilst this is a positive achievement there will always be more to do because we want the very best for our residents. We will continue to listen to and involve them in shaping further improvements to the service."
